The franchise’s first flick, 2003’s The Curse of the Black Pearl starring Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley, was inspired by the classic Disney theme park attraction and, of course, introduced fans to the infamous Captain Jack Sparrow. 1. Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003)
Will Turner (Bloom) teams up with Captain Jack Sparrow (Depp) to save Governor Weatherby Swann’s daughter Elizabeth (Knightley) after she’s taken aboard the Black Pearl—whose captain, Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush), and crew are cursed.
2. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest (2006)
Depp, Bloom and Knightley return for another adventure in the first Pirates sequel. In this second installment, the time has come for Jack Sparrow to settle his debt with Davy Jones (Bill Nighy). With the captain of the Flying Dutchman after him, Jack attempts to avoid 100 years of service on his ship before the Kraken can get to him.
3. Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End (2007)
With Jack now trapped in Davy Jones’ Locker, Will, Elizabeth and Captain Barbossa sail to the ends of the earth and beyond to free Jack. The trapped Pirate Lord is needed by the Brethren Court to help release the sea goddess Calypso.
4. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011)
Zombies, pirates and mermaids, oh my! Jack sets out to find the Fountain of Youth with Blackbeard (Ian McShane) and his daughter Angelica (Penélope Cruz), a woman from Jack’s past.
5. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017)
Javier Bardem stars in the fifth film as Captain Armando Salazar, a pirate hunter who escapes from the Devil’s Triangle. Now out, Salazar wants his revenge on Jack Sparrow. The son of familiar faces joins forces with Jack to find the Trident of Poseidon, which is the captain’s “only hope.” Next, family movies to watch in 2022!
