West, 45, has been at the center of controversy in recent weeks, after sharing anti-Semitic hate speech to his social media accounts and prompting a handful of celebrities to condemn the rapper for his offensive words. Gadot joined in on those celebrities speaking out with a social media post on Tuesday, Oct. 25, where the Wonder Woman star sent a subtle but important message against anti-Semitism. In the photo—shared to both her Twitter and Instagram pages—Gadot, 37, posed for selfie while wearing a necklace with a pendant in the shape of a Star of David, a widely recognized symbol for both Judaism and Jewish identity. She captioned the post, “Proud,” along with the emoji “✡️,” representing the Star of David as well. The Israeli actress received an outpouring of support on the post, especially on Instagram, where one of her fans commented, “Proud to have you as my role model ❤️❤️✡️.” “You’re my inspiration,” another person added. Gadot’s posts come the same day that Adidas announced it would be terminating its longtime partnership with West as a result of his repeated anti-Semitic statements. The sportswear company released a statement on Tuesday, explaining that Adidas “does not tolerate antisemitism and any other sort of hate speech.” “Ye’s recent comments and actions have been unacceptable, hateful and dangerous, and they violate the company’s values of diversity and inclusion, mutual respect and fairness,” the company added, per their website. “After a thorough review, the company has taken the decision to terminate the partnership with Ye immediately, end production of Yeezy branded products and stop all payments to Ye and his companies. Adidas will stop the adidas Yeezy business with immediate effect.” The decision from Adidas comes after multiple efforts urging the company to drop West, including pushes from celebrity advocates—namely Friends star David Schwimmer, Amy Schumer and Sophia Bush, among others—as well as a campaign from the Anti-Defamation League and a petition on change.org.
