The couple has tried to stay apart, but that hasn’t worked out too well, and we know that Violet is used to tempestuous relationships because we saw what happened earlier with her on-again-off-again connection to Blake Gallo (Alberto Rosende), but at least that one didn’t put her career in jeopardy. “I do think that she’s incredibly driven, she’s very ambitious and competitive,” Greensmith told reporters on a junket for Chicago Fire, “so I do think that because of her relationship with Hawkins, she’s mortified that it could actually get her somewhere that she doesn’t deserve. I think she’s someone who definitely wants to feel that she’s worked hard for something, and she gets everything she works for. So, I think that’s actually her hardest part of the relationship, is feeling like things are coming to her unfairly, like getting her heater fixed.” So while it was true that Chief Hawkins was giving Violet preferential treatment, it had to stop. Now, Violet’s job is under serious fire because her temporary partner in Brett’s absence, Emma Jacobs (Caitlin Carver), appears to be scheming to take Violet’s job in Firehouse 51, not Brett’s, by making her appear incompetent, and Violet may have no one to turn to for help. “That’s more of a challenge for her to have to work with someone that isn’t necessarily what she seems on the page,” Greensmith said. “So, there’s a lot that she has to be wary of and totally distrusting of, and totally just curious over.” And it gets even more complicated because normally Violet could report Emma to Chief Hawkins, which she did but as her boyfriend, so because she’s dating her superior and the top brass are aware of it, he may not be able to assist her if the time comes. “It could be a really interesting challenge to see all three of those people navigate that and see what choices are made,” Greensmith added. On tonight’s episode, tensions run high between Emma and Violet, and we know from a previous conversation with showrunner Derek Haas that Emma “seems to be up to something that I don’t like or appreciate, and that might also factor into our finale.
